March 10, 2006, Newsletter Issue #27: Starting a Thread

Tip of the Week

To start a thread use an away-knot. Knot the end of your thread and insert your needle several inches away from where you will start stitching... enter the needle in the TOP of the fabric (so the knot will be on the top). Locate the away-knot in a place such that when you start stitching your stitches will automatically stitch over the length of thread on the back of your fabric. After you have stitched a number of threads and the tail is secure you can clip it off on the back. Voila! Your thread is now secured.
